ITEMS OF DISCUSSION:

1. Treasurer’s Report: $11,526.39 as of January 30, 2004.

2. Membership report: There are currently 238 members paid and 616 members in the database.

3. Welcoming Committee: Welcoming committee members report they have distributed welcome packets to a total of more than 75 homes. Help is needed in locating and reporting new renters and new residents who bought “For Sale by Owner” homes.

4. Gateways: The meeting with Moore School PTA was cancelled last month due to inclement weather. Moore’s principal wants the PTA to help with the gateway. Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful grants of $50-$150 are available for buying plants and planting materials. Jennifer will investigate.

5. Newsletter: A motion was passed to use an invoice system to keep track of advertisers. The rates for advertising are currently $135/yr (gets customer ads in 3 quarterly issues and the mass mailing), $35/ quarterly issue, or $70 for an ad in the mass mailing. A motion was passed to have the mass mailing revert to being sent out in the fall before the annual meeting for the foreseeable future. A motion was passed to give advertisers 1 or 2 free advertisements, if needed, to get back on an acceptable schedule.

6. Home Tour update: The date for the Home Tour has been set for May 2, 2004. Budget Self-Storage has offered to donate $1000 if named the primary sponsor on the posters and tickets. Scott Sturdy will be designing the poster and Scott and Rick will be designing the tickets.

7. Traffic calming: There are now 4-way stop signs at the Rosewood/Melrose and Queen/Magnolia intersections. Speed limits for Westover Ave., Westfield St., Rosewood Ave, and a portion of Elizabeth Ave will be reduced to 25MPH as soon as approval to purchase signs is obtained from the city. No other news concerning was Lockland Ave. section, Irving/Fenimore area or the Miller Street section.

8. Zoning: Ardmore Moravian Church: A motion was made and passed opposing the variance of buffer yard contiguous to lots 134 & 202. We support Ardmore Moravian Church’s opportunity to grow with their addition, but insist they provide the required buffer as the law requires for IP zoned land. We support the City’s recommendation in full.

9. 4th of July Picnic: David and Diana have volunteered to be co-chairs of the annual picnic.

10. WS Neighborhood Alliance: Mary Ann attended the meeting on January 13th. Items discussed included the zoning issues for the property that was once Staley’s restaurant, the new shopping area going up south of Target on Hanes Mall Blvd., as well as the City’s greenway plan. It was mentioned that there have been a few daytime robberies in West End with the robbers just walking into homes with the owners/tenants there. As a means of securing and stabilizing homes in the Waughtown area the WPRC is trying to acquire five vacant homes, help families make emergency repairs in up to four other homes, and assist ten other families with home rehabilitations.

11. Crime report: Concerns were expressed about putting the entire crime report on the website and the subject will be discussed further next month.

12. Website: The new website is up and running with photos coming soon. A posting telling what the National Historical District status will and won’t mean for Ardmore residents will be posted soon.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:25PM

Respectfully submitted,
