Lonnie Clark shared information about a school project she did for a public health course, which highlighted a successful ‘weed & seed’ program already underway in other parts of Winston-Salem. ‘Weed & seed’ involves weeding out problem elements (drugs, crime, etc) from a particular area and then ‘seeding’ that area with positive social and civic development. OLD BUSINESS
1. Question and answer session with WFUBMC and Ardmore residents will be held January 16, 2007 at Temple Emanuel, at 7:00 PM. Two hundred flyers have been distributed by Page Laughlin and Sara & Stan Nutter to homes closest to the construction. Patti requested that Jennifer send an email to current distribution.
2. Stan and Sara Nutter provided feedback from the CHANGE meeting concerning the new baseball stadium, Wednesday, December 13, 2006.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Fire at Gaston and Watson Sts on January 8. Question was raised whether the ANA has a fund or provides other outreach for this type of crisis. ANA does not provide this type of crisis support directly, but may want to support efforts coordinated through other charitable groups. Richard and Regina King stated that the resident had been a member and Ardmore Baptist Church, which would be providing support for the family.
2. Goals for 2007 – Some ideas were offered for 2007 projects / improvements, including Attic Sale (fundraising), possible home and/or garden tours, annual Fall Festival, promotion of small residential groups (based on Lockland Park model), membership drives to increase awareness, better use of email to increase interest and awareness. Patti will send list of ideas out for consideration and feedback before next meeting. Tom requested this issue be moved to top of agenda for next meeting.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:10 PM.
