Promote Walking, First Deadline is December 18th

Your ANA board and the city staff have listened to you! The city, state and federal government all hope to improve our transportation and safety. There is currently work on all levels, but we need your statements to actually get the work done!

The Cloverdale Pedestrian plan is in first draft and can be viewed at http://cityofws.org/Home/Departments/Transportation/Planning/Articles/DraftCloverdaleAvenuePedestrianAndBicycleStudy. Please send comments to Matthew Burczyk , Bicycle & Pedestrian Coordinator Department of Transportation City of Winston-Salem (336)747-6884 or gro.swfoyticnull@kbttam by December 18th. Your comments could get the needed funding.

There is currently Federal funding available to a multicounty area for pedestrian and bike improvement. Projects would be large in scope and improve multiple neighborhoods or connectivity between counties. We believe The Peter’s Creek/Silas Creek area is the ideal place to invest this money as it would improve connectivity and safety for residents and employees in Ardmore, West Salem, West End and Davidson County. Specifically, we would request a Pedestrian and Bicycle Study and construction funds to improve Peter’s Creek Parkway between Silas Creek – Downtown and an extension of the Salem Creek Greenway westward from Marketplace Mall, to the Forsyth Tech campus on Silas Creek Parkway. Completion of any part of this would be a great help. Your letters, calls or e-mails which provide your experience driving, walking or biking in this area could make a difference! Please send comments to Matthew Burczyk, Bicycle & Pedestrian Coordinator Department of Transportation City of Winston-Salem (336)747-6884 or gro.swfoyticnull@kbttam by January.

The state is holding working groups to prepare detailed plans for repair of the I-40 bridges and mitigation of the potential challenges of detoured traffic. If you would like to participate, starting on January 28th, please contact sw.eromdrAnull@eromdrA

Safety

While we have one of the safest neighborhoods in WS, there have been some burglaries. Please help the police by writing down electronics serial numbers and safely storing the information, such as in a safe deposit box. Etch sentimental items with identifying information. This allows identification of items and prosecution of burglars.

Please place smoke detectors in every bedroom. This is a new safety code

requirement and could save your life or others!

We thank the Ardmore United Methodist Church for graciously providing monthly meeting space and the Green Street Methodist Church/Shalom Project for their continued efforts to enrich the lives of our residents in the Peter’s Creek Community and to transform the community to a place where its assets shine!

ANA President
