Garden Club Underway

The inaugural meeting of the Ardmore Garden Club commenced on April 20. We had a great turn-out for our first gathering….15 enthusiastic gardeners, most experienced, and at least one eager wanabee (yours truly!) In attendance were Georgianna, Pat, Ona, Page, Jeannie, Brenda, Scott, Jeri, Jane, Ellen, David, Jackie, Phyllis, Jennifer and Elisa.
Our next meeting will be held this Thursday evening, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. for a tour of David’s garden at 2211 Rosewood.

With Open Arms

Children are running barefoot, bulbs are pushing their heads out of the earth and the Mourning Doves have flown over 1000 miles to find warmth. Spring is upon us. And so are new neighbors! The ANA Welcoming Committee hands out a packet of information to new home owners and renters that has proven to be a valuable resource – but, as you can imagine it is next to impossible to locate everyone that has chosen to make Ardmore their new home. Please contact Bonnie King (moc.loanull@kbemylno or 724.2195) if you would like a packet or have new neighbors that haven’t been contacted.

Kitchen Tour

The Junior League of Winston-Salem proudly presents the 2006 Tour of Fine Kitchens, April 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visit ten professionally designed kitchens where local chefs will prepare food to sample. One of these homes is located in Ardmore – 2208 Westfield Avenue.

To purchase tickets call the Junior League office at 722-9681, or stop by to purchase. The Junior League Headquarters is housed in the Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem at 390 S. Liberty St. Suite 100, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Tickets are $20 when purchased in advance or $25 at the door (if still available).

All proceeds from the event will benefit the programs and outreach of the League, an organization of women committed to strengthening families and, through voluntarism, has effected change in Winston-Salem for over 80 years.

Green Thumbs Unite!

We have had a great response thus far regarding our Garden Club start up. The first meeting will be held mid-August. Additional information will be posted as soon as possible.

David Bare has graciously agreed to help out with this new adventure. We look forward to hearing from anyone that is interested in participating. Please contact Elisa Lovette at 721-0383 to sign up.

Playground Project Grant Award

The Playground Project, organized by Linda Pass, recently received notification of a grant from The Winston-Salem Foundation for $20,000. Congratulations to Linda and her many dedicated volunteers!

The funds are being made available from the Edna B. Parkin Georges Youth Fund and will be used for the purchase and installation of playground equipment at both Miller and Lockland Parks. The Playground Project volunteers are also continuing to pursue corporate donations from local businesses as well as private donations from neighborhood residents.

Linda is still recruiting volunteers to assist with this project so please contact her at 727.0912. Part of the grant stipulates that community volunteers must help with equipment installation – so call Linda today to volunteer just a few hours of your time! This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the diversity of Ardmore and to become better aquainted with your Ardmore neighbors while providing a safe and fun place for our children to play.
