* Tiffany White moving from Board Member at large to Vice President
* Sarah Hahne joining the Board as Church and Institutional Liaison
* Ben White joining the Board as Police Liaison

Traffic
* Repairs on Business 40 have been postponed until 2018.
* Lonnie has final Cloverdale pedestrian plan.

Crime
Guest Michael Lundquist’s home near Lockland Park was broken into and robbed in early August. In addition to making changes at his own home to improve personal security for his home/family, he handed out 24 letters to neighbors to alert them to the situation. He is attending the ANA Board meeting to see how he can turn this bad situation into a positive effort for the neighborhood. Other Lockland Park area residents also attended to support Michael and get more involved in keeping Ardmore safe.

There was much discussion about the benefits of getting everyone signed up on the ANA listserve to quickly share these types of problems and information was distributed on how to join. There was also discussion about how the ANA and Ardmore residents can get more involved in proactive efforts like Neighborhood Watch groups. There is perception that crime is on the increase where it is more of an increased awareness due to better communication methods.

Per Ben White, the WSPD CPU, Breaking and Entering statistics are being tracked for trends to determine where more patrols may be needed, etc. WSPD has representatives participating in the listserve, and Ben also proactively forwards any critical emails he feels need to be reviewed.

Adjourned: 8:30 PM

Respectfully submitted,
Patti Heath

• Twin City Baptist Church expansion.

The meeting will start at 7 PM with the annual board vote. While all are invited to the meeting only ANA resident members can vote regarding the board or any other items. (We will take a survey of none members for the Cloverdale project and pass that on to the city, non members are welcome to sign the Post office petition.)

Weatherization Makes $ense: A Workshop
If your energy bills are too high, or if you want to make your home more comfortable and environmentally friendly, this workshop is right for you! Every day, air leaks let in the hot summer air or let out your heat in the winter, making you air conditioner and heater work more than it has to. Weatherizing your home can effectively seal these leaks and cut down on that energy bill–saving you money, and saving excess carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere. Join Piedmont Environmental Alliance, Goodwill Industries, and Forsyth County Library to learn more about home energy audits, basic weatherization projects, and landscaping for energy efficiency. Please contact Lisa at ude.ufwnull@7jltron or 828.337.5909 with any questions. http://peanc.org

Ardmore Neighborhood Association Meeting

July 13, 2010

In attendance: Dianne Blancato, Lonnie Clark, Tom Dalrymple, Reggie Delahenty, Catherine Eades, Doris Kendrick, Pauline Leggatt, Tiffany White, Ann Winters

Call to Order at 7:05 p.m.

Crime Prevention: Ardmore is one of the safest neighborhoods in Winston-Salem, but crime does occur here. Ben White, Assistant District Attorney for Forsyth County, and Corporal Calcutt and Officer Hagan of the Winston-Salem Police Department, presented information about how to prevent crime. Advice they offered included:

· Look out for your neighbors. If you see something that seems out of the ordinary, report it to the police. Call 911 to report a crime in progress. If you have a doubt about something, but don’t think it’s serious, call the police non-emergency number, 773-7700. Get license plate numbers for suspicious vehicles.

· Take photos/video of your property and record serial numbers. Many items that are stolen are pawned and this is the best way to identify them. The Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) has engravers that may be checked out for two weeks. Contact the Crime Prevention Unit to reserve one. Engraving your property makes it easier to identify if it is stolen.

· The WSPD has a home inventory form available on its website, www.wspd.org. The form is a great tool for both police and insurance companies if you are the victim of a theft. The website also has information about crime prevention. The police to citizen section of the site may be searched to find out about crime in the area.

· In-home safes need to be installed by connecting them to a wall stud or floor joist.

· Don’t mail checks from your mailbox. Take them to the post office. Some thieves take checks to steal identities.

· Lock your doors and cars.

· Leave exterior lights on at night.

· A home security evaluation may be requested from WSPD’s Crime Prevention Unit.
